Asheville native Viola Spells will recount her involvement in the process of desegregation in Buncombe County in the 1950s and 1960s. Mrs. Spells worked to integrate the library system, the schools and other local institutions. As a teenager, she met with powerful white businessmen and politicians to make her case, resulting in an incredible impact on our community. Don't miss this fascinating true story from someone on the front lines of the Civil Rights movement.

This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Weaverville Library. There will be a corresponding photo exhibit on the integration of the Library system throughout the month of February in commemoration of Black History Month.
